Book Signing & Free Jewelry Workshop!

Have you tried your hand at jewelry making? Come to Mama's Minerals for an exciting event taking place on Wednesday, February 22nd  from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Santa Fe store or at the Albuquerque store on Thursday, February 23rd  from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Show Your Colors co-author Sarah Hardin Oehler will be on site for personal autographs. She will also be holding a FREE  "make it and take it" project workshop. The project will include free tools, beads and supplies. Free refreshments complete this fun event. Who Is a Frugal Burqueño?

If you try to live a frugal life, if you want to spend your money well, if you look for deals, if you use coupons, if you enter contests, if you like freebies, if you live locally,  You Are a Frugal Burqueño! Since I saw my first roadrunner after I moved here in January 2009, I've been in love with these mischievious creatures. My Uncle Howard knows my weird hobby of collecting roadrunner figurines so the image above (and  the one used in the banner) was what he came up with when I asked him to sketch something I could put on my blog. I absolutely love it and it fits here perfectly! My little friend is running around to share his money saving tips, announce local giveaways or tell you about a deal he spotted. He loves to tweet and he shows up on Facebook, too. Thank you so much, Howard! The credits also go to Charles (who actually named my site) and to my husband Jaime who encouraged me to start blogging about something I'm passionate about. A new, energy efficient Maytag dishwasher (won from PNM and Baillio's) plus brand new shower fixtures (part of a bath remodel won from Yourson) are helping us save money and once we even got the Low Use Discount (offered from May to October) applied to our water bill ! It motivated me to look for other ways of saving water! Water Utility Authority has some tips on how to cut back on our usage: 1. Limit outdoor watering. Once a month is enough for dormant plants. 2. Wow, these contests cracked me up! Show your kiss and you could win a $2000 shopping spree in The Peak's Kiss Cam Photo Contest  (categories: couple kiss, solo kiss, kid kiss and pet kiss). Upload your photo for a chance to win $1000 or upload a picture of someone else (you win $500 and she wins $500, "The girl must know you are taking her photo and sadly, no nudity allowed. They must be wearing at least bra and panties", " be on the lookout for hot chicks..waitresses, bartenders, etc..") in the 94 Rock New Mexico's Hottest Chick Contest. In both cases the winners will be determined by the number of VOTES they receive. How I Became a Better Couponer!

This morning I went to the class on couponing and smart shopping that was taught by my friend Payje from Things You Want to Know, Places You Want to Go. It was really an eye opening experience. I didn't realize how much money we can save using coupons in a smart was. It's s skill and there are tricks to be learned :-) A good way to start is watching some Youtube tutorials! I didn't know that Walmart takes Costco coupons, that I can get a monthly coupon booklet from a cashier in Walgreens or that it's possible to get a Sunday paper for 50 cents in the evening :-) I'm going to sign up for more freebies and check out new websites! Thanks so much everyone who joined the class and shared their experience. It was a pleasure meeting everyone. Good luck with couponing!

Get the Picture Contest!

I love this contest! I'm entering for a chance to win $10,000! I like daydreaming about what I'd spend the money on if I won :-) But it's not all about money! I like the challenge of trying to figure out what the old photographs represent. And I love traveling! I moved to New Mexico from Poland 3 years ago and I haven't discovered all these beautiful places yet. I liked the Catch The Kid Contest but I didn't participate because our daughter was just a few months old. Now, after we did this long drive to Maryland, she's good to go ;-) A few hour in  a car should be a piece of cake :)  Each matched photo is one entry and there are 100 vintage pictures from all over the state to recognize and photograph nowadays. My husband's into photography so we are both very excited about this opportunity. We have time until October but we'd better start soon! Anyone else up for the challenge? Register here. Won a Shower Makeover !

This was simply incredible! I won a complete shower makeover from Yourson valued at $800! I posted about this local contest back in the summer and entered my picture just a few hours before the deadline. Imagine my surprise when in December I found out I was one of the finalists! We were over the moon when after a short bathroom inspection I was notified I was the winner!  We did need a shower remodel and were  putting this job off trying to do it ourselves. We're glad we didn't touch anything! The guys from Yourson did an excellent job. They worked hard as water damage turned out to be worse than expected - they had to take some tiles off to run a blower (I called it working behind the scene). They fixed the wall next to the shower, painted it, sealed the whole shower area neatly, changed fixtures (so they won't  leak any more) and painted the shower pan. It was A LOT of work! What a huge upgrade for our house!  

Thank you Yourson for making our Christmas wish come true!

Happy 2012! Hope your Christmas was lovely and you started the new year with love at heart and some new energy! We drove more than 3,600 miles (with a 9-month-old baby on board!) to and from Maryland where we spent a wonderful time with our family. Last year was very fortunate for us. I believe 2012 will be even better! I hope to work more on my blog! Thank you for being with me!
