The Second Annual Polish Picnic 2012

This is very exciting news! We are in the process of organizing The Second Annual Polish Picnic 2012! When I moved to Albuquerque about 3.5 years ago I didn't know any Polish people living here. Right now I have some wonderful Polish friends and I'm very happy to be a part of our little community and run NM Polonia.

We'd love to meet more people who are Polish or those who are simply interested in Polish culture, history, food, etc. 

And the opportunity to do so is coming at the end of September! Along with EuroZone Food Distributors and Polonez (Polish-American Club of NM- a Google group) we started to organize a Polish picnic!

I'm very excited about this idea and I'm asking everyone for help.

If you'd like to participate, have any questions or suggestions, please let me know! Maybe you know about some great deals on renting a tent or a bouncy castle? Maybe you'd like to be a sponsor? Maybe you're able to donate some prizes and I could do a contest or a giveaway? Maybe you simply have a brilliant idea that would make this picnic a successful event that connects people and leave lasting memories?

We were going camping last weekend and thought of making s'mores over the campfire :-) I actually only had them once because I never heard of them when I lived in Europe. I often shop at Smith's that's located on the corner of Louisiana and Montgomery. It's close to my house and I find people working there really nice. But now I will also have a great opinion about local couponers who shop there. Why? I needed three ingredients to make smores: marshmallows (on sale), graham crackers (on sale) and some Hershey chocolate which was not on sale but some kind local person left me a $1.00 off coupon that was just about to expire :-) It was such a lovely gesture! I loved it! Thank you very much to whoever left it. You made me smile :-) From now on, if I have some good coupons I'm not gonna use and the expiration date is close, I'm gonna leave it on the product (underneath it or behind it) and I encourage you to do the same !

The s'mores were delicious and after coming back I tried to make them in a toaster oven ;-)

Kutz 4 Kids Back to School Event!

It's almost here! The second annual Kutz 4 Kidz Back to School Event in Albuquerque! The charity event will provide free professional haircuts, backpacks and school supplies for underprivileged children in our community. It will also include a free BBQ, demonstrations of APD's specialized units, a car show and many family friendly activities. 

Last year over 500 youth received free haircuts but there was only enough school supplies for a little over 200 students. The goal for the 2012 Kutz 4 Kidz is to serve 2,500 youth with both haircuts and school supplies!

Surprise Win from PNM !

I love surprise wins! I was super excited when I found a package I did not expect on my door step :-) It was from PNM ! I immediately recalled I entered their Super Energy Saver Challenge a few weeks ago and was selected as a winner of a weekly prize! I received a programmable thermostat which will help us save money by using pre-programmed settings to regulate our home's temperature both in summer and winter- when we are home, asleep or away :-) We can now happily replace the old thermostat that didn't work so well! Thank you PNM for all the energy saving tips you present on your Facebook page. I have learned a lot of new things and we introduced some new changes that will help us save money. I'd like to encourage everyone to follow and like PNM. They have unique contests going on and you could win some useful prize for your household. Last but not least, over a year ago I won a much bigger prize from PNM & Baillio's: a Maytag dishwasher! :-)))

I went there this morning with my friend.. There was one item I really wanted to find and guess what - it was there waiting for me :-) I got a Tough Traveler baby carrier (the one you put on your back and use for hiking) for only $15 :-) Well, I actually got it FREE because I have won gift certificates for this event ($50 for me and $25 for my guest). I bought some puzzles, books, a little play house and kitchen toys. I was aiming for toys :-) There were so many clothes (great brand!) and various baby items.
